THE ART PLACE - MOUNTAIN VIEW

a facility of the Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department

Our Mission

the art place - Mt. View is a facility of Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department.  We seek to encourage fine arts programs that will enhance and promote processes of artistic merit.  This is done by fostering creativity in each individual rather than the emphasis on a finished product. The Art Place has spaces designed to be flexible for visual and performing arts activities.  The facility also offers gallery exhibitions, theatre productions and meeting space for nonprofit arts related organizations.

Message from Cultural Affairs Division Director

the art place - mountain view is a program and a building created just for the arts. Upon leasing and converting a restaurant to an arts center in 1986, the county soon discovered the need and desire for arts programs in East Cobb. The Steeple House Arts Center opened it's doors in January of 1987. This facility was located at the corner of Johnson Ferry and Paper Mill Roads. Within three years the response to the programming in this facility gave the county officials the direction needed to build a building just for the arts. the art place - mountain view is the result of a dream and the undying participation in the arts from the East Cobb Community.

As the first coordinator of The Art Place, it holds a special place in my heart. I love the possibilities of this building, it's programs and the people who make the programs happen. Don't be afraid to suggest something new.  the art place is all about creation.... Or the process of art. Without the patrons, we, the staff, would just create what we like.  Think about where you would like to see your arts program go and then work with a staff member to make it happen. That's how we began in 1986.  I think that process has proven to be very successful.

Theatrically Yours,

Elizabeth H. Weaver - Cultural Affairs Division Director

Letter from TAP Coordinator

Greetings Art Friends:

I am so glad you are visiting our site and hopefully you will be here in person at the art place - mt. view soon.  I have been here since 1994 as a teacher, full time Art Specialist and now the Coordinator.  I can't imagine working anywhere else!  For those of you who are not aware this facility is tax supported and part of Cobb County Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs.  We are grateful to have a county government and citizens that support us each and every day.

Our art center has something for everyone: from the 3 month old in music and movement classes to the older adult wanting to take one of our many visual art classes.  Please view the links to classes and camps, opportunities to see gallery shows, theatre productions, registration information, and free outdoor concerts for families.  Find out about shows and auditions being done by Centerstage North and Curtain Call Youth Players by clicking on their site links.  Volunteer with MVAA and see our shows for free!!

Please visit our site often for seasonal events and changes in opportunities for families and friends.  Call or email us to get your name on the mailing list. We no longer mail the The Front Row, the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs guide to what's happening in arts and recreation around your area of town. If you would like to receive a copy, you may pick one up at any Cobb County Parks and Recreation facility or call us to have one mailed to you.

Thanks again for your interest in the arts and the art place - mt. view.  I know you will find something that will feed those creative thoughts for you or your family.  If you have an arts group needing a place to meet, give me a call or email me as well.

Artfully yours,

Nelah S. Gabler, Coordinator - the art place - mt. view
